Imagine a woman wanting to open a flower shop. She’s great at caring for flowers and making beautiful arrangements. However, becoming a business owner requires you to have more than a passion for flowers.

Now, you’ve got to become an accountant, owner, manager, hr department, advertiser, and so much more! No one has the time or energy to do all those roles, but they’re all important. It’s easier to stick to what you’re good at and hire out the rest.

There are three different ways you can get paid advertising for companies.

  • Ad agency – Create and display advertising for businesses. You set up their ads and get paid for the service.
  • Commission based – You advertise for companies and earn money when someone buys a product, signs up for an offer, or business is referred.
  • Multi-Level Marketing – Like commission based but often have recruitment as part of the commission structure.

For example, a company spends $1 million for advertising and sees a 50% increase in revenue. Next, they increase there spending by another $1 million and see a 20% increase. There becomes a point where throwing more money at the same ad strategy doesn’t work.

Advertising is a growing business and there are hundreds of thousands of companies who need ads. From your local coffee shop all the way up to big names like Nike, Pepsi, and more!

Companies like Facebook have built billion dollar companies helping people advertise. Businesses are willing to spend more money on advertisements if it means increasing profits.

How much do companies pay for advertising?

Advertising payment depends on many factors including marketing strategy, commission structure, or rate agreements. It’s hard to estimate how much you’ll be paid until you evaluate your advertising strategy.

For example, are you a commission based advertiser? If so, your payment depends on how many sales you can make. Are you an ad agency? If so, how many clients do you have?

If you’re a marketer for Amazon, your commission rates are going to be low (around 2-8%). However, some websites like Click Bank offer 50-75% commissions.

So what does providing value look like when it comes to marketing?

Often, that means creating a blog post that provides a direct answer to someones question. Have you ever searched for something online and struggled to find the answer?

Alternatively, it could mean finding a specific product that helps someone solve a pain point. Your job as a marketer is to get that product in front of the people who need it.

So what are some of the ways you can start making money through advertising?

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is one of the top ways to make money advertising. With affiliate marketing, you earn a commission by referring a customer to a business.

For example, I might write a blog post on the best vacuum cleaners. I help someone make a decision on what vacuum cleaner is the best choice. They click a link on my website which takes them to Amazon, where they purchase the product. I would earn a percentage of the sale for referring business.

Amazon is one of many places that offers an affiliate program. Usually, you can find a “Partner with us” or “affiliate program” at the bottom of a companies website.

ShareASale is a huge network of companies looking for people to promote their products. You can browse a list of companies and apply to join each merchant’s affiliate program.

The company will review your application to join. Approval is up to each company, but there are thousands of companies to choose from. Most companies are looking to see if you have an established website that works with their brand.

Each company found on ShareASale has different rules. For example, a company may not want you to promote their brand with Pay Per Click ads using certain keywords.

Display ads are one of the easiest ways to make money advertising for companies. Simply take a snippet of code, put it on your website, and earn money.

As a content creator, ads allow you to focus on creating great content without worrying about money. Ads are truly a passive form of online income.

How much can you earn from display ads?

Ad revenue from ad networks depends on multiple factors. Generally, you can expect to earn $5-10 per thousand views from lower paying ad networks. Higher paying ad networks pay $12-25 per thousand views or more depending on your niche.

How much money you earn depends on a few factors. Ad revenue is dependent on:

  1. How much traffic your website receives. – Ad revenue is often reported in revenue per mille (RPM). RPM is a fancy term for revenue per thousand views. Increasing the number of page views will increase your ad revenue.
  2. Your website’s niche/what you write about. – The more competitive your niche is the higher advertisers will pay for ad placement. Therefore, writing about health and fitness can earn you more than bird watching.
  3. Ad placement. – Ad click through rates (CTR) changes greatly depending on where your ads are placed. More people see the top of your article than the bottom. Therefore, CTR is better when you place ads at the top of your website.
  4. How you get your traffic. – Getting organic traffic is the best source of traffic because people are naturally finding your website. Paying for traffic removes the natural interest which causes less interaction for your website.
  5. Location of users. – Ad revenue changes depending on user demographics. For example, you would earn more for a U.S. based ad click than someone from India.

What are the best display ad networks?

Not all ad networks have the same requirements. Some are more exclusive than others and may require a certain amount of monthly page views. Most will require you to have an about me page, privacy policy, and contact me page.

  1. Google Adsense – One of the most basic ad networks and one of the easiest. Higher paying ad networks may require you to be in good standing with Adsense.
  2. Mediavine – To join, you need to show that you have 50,000 monthly sessions per Google Analytics and be in good standing with Google Adsense. Other requirements may exist.
  3. Adthrive – In order to join Adthrive, you must have 100,000 pageviews per month and be in good standing with other ad networks.
  4. Ezoic – Requires 10,000 page views per month.
  5. Monumetric – Requires a minimum of 10,000 page views per month.

No matter which ad network you choose to partner with, you’ll earn money with qualified traffic. You should focus on increasing your websites traffic to start building income.

Starting an ad agency is one profitable way to help companies advertise. Basically, you attract clients for which you will create and promote advertising material. It’s as simple as targeting a business, contacting them about advertising, charge for services, and repeat!

How do you approach a company for advertising?

Approach companies for advertising services by being as personal as possible. Talking to a company in person is better than over the phone because you’ll have undivided attention. Highlight the value you will bring to the company if you partner for advertising.

Start by signing up with a blogging network and setting your rates. You can apply for sponsored opportunities through the network. Alternatively, you might be approached by a company which can be even more profitable.

For example, Khloe Kardashian earns $13,000 to tweet to her 8 million followers! Yes, that is $13k to send one single tweet. People will pay you for being able to get a message in front of people!

Car wrap advertisements

Car wraps are just one way you can help companies advertise. Simply sign up for a company, accept a car wrap, and drive around. You can go through a car wrap company for easy money.

What are some legit car wrap companies?

  1. Wrapify – Wrapify combines technology and advertising to get a fair price for your driving. Get your car wrapped and download the App.Start the App while driving and Wrapify calculates an estimated earnings by how visible your car was during your drive. This means you get paid more for driving down a busy highway than an old dirt road.
  2. Carvertise – Carvertise allows you the flexibility to say yes or no to specific advertisers, so you can be happy with what’s wrapped on your car. Additionally, some Carvertise campaigns will pay you an extra $30 to park your car at a location for a set amount of time.
  3. Free Car Media – Most of the advertisements are back window ads which nets you about $50 per month. In addition, you will be required to install the advertisement yourself.
