How to Make Money on YouTube!

When I first heard that you could make money online, I was shocked! I was so busy being a consumer of the internet that it never occurred to me that I could earn money with it.

Even though it helps, you don’t even need a website to start earning. Social media is changing the way we look at money, making it possible to earn a full-time income from home.

YouTube entrepreneurs, such as Philip Defranco, have started successful online businesses and become “internet famous” in the process. Can you imagine getting paid to make videos and post them online?

The best part about making a living from sites like YouTube is that you can work from anywhere with an internet connection. I recently watched a video with a couple of guys in their early 20’s who earn enough money online to travel the world.

While it is possible to earn a full-time income thanks to YouTube, it is worth noting that it isn’t an overnight process. Just like in college, many people attempt to start a YouTube business but then drop out when times get rough or results aren’t made fast enough.

Ready to start making some money online? Here’s how you can earn some extra money with YouTube.

Pick a Subject

The first step is to figure out what interests you. Chances are there’s someone out there with the same likes and dislikes. It should be a topic that you can keep making videos on for years.

The best part is that you can make videos about anything. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Current events
Video games
Product Reviews

Sign up for Google Adsense

Google Adsense will allow you to place advertisements on your YouTube videos. When someone watches your video with an advertisement or clicks on the ad, you get paid for it!

Google Adsense is the first step you should consider to start making some income. If you already have a YouTube account, you can link it with your Adsense account.

To start showing advertisements on your videos, go to the video management tab within YouTube and click the monetize button next to each video.

Remember, you aren’t going to strike it rich with Adsense. The key to making money with this method is to increase your video views. To increase your views, you need to get a lot of subscribers!

Make a lot of High-Quality Videos

There are two critical aspects to your video posting strategy, quantity and quality. The more videos you post, the more of a chance people will find your videos, but that doesn’t mean anything if you have horrible videos and people leave in the first five seconds.

Focus on finding the right balance that works for you, posting on a regular basis without sacrificing quality. Posting once a week will help you gain subscribers better than posting seven videos in a week followed by not posting for two months.

Follow the Trends

Always talk about the latest and greatest in whatever your video content is about. For example, if you are making videos about video games, cover major announcements like new releases the minute you know about it. This will help people find you because it’s a highly searched topic during all the excitement.

Ask People to Like, Subscribe, Comment, and Share

Asking people to like, subscribe, comment, and share is another crucial way to gain subscribers and get found. People don’t usually think about sharing, but asking them to do so puts it in their mind, and they are now more likely to do so.

Other people are making videos on YouTube and want to be found just as much as you do. YouTube is a community and commenting on other people’s videos will help you get found. At a minimum, try to comment on four videos to every video you post.

Find Sponsors

Sponsors have money and need to get the word out about their products. Luckily you’re building a way to connect sponsors with people! They have a need, and you have a solution!

It’s surprising, but sponsors would rather pay people to promote their product than grow a list of potential buyers. There are a lot of websites looking to connect bloggers with companies.

Going through a site is one of the easiest ways to find a sponsor, but it isn’t your only option. If you grow your subscriber base, you can seek out companies within your niche that would be willing to pay you money for a simple video.

Try not to fill your entire YouTube channel with sponsored comment. You still want people to come for the quality videos you post, not just a bunch of advertisements thrown at them.

Sign up for Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are risky business on YouTube, and there is a lot of talk and speculation as to whether or not posting affiliate links on your videos falls within the terms of service.

If you aren’t familiar, an affiliate program gives you money every time you sell a product through a unique link (your affiliate link). Affiliate programs are an excellent source of income, especially if you have your own blog.

I would recommend using your videos to drive traffic to your website where they can read more about the affiliate product. The last thing you want to do is build an awesome YouTube channel with millions of subscribers only to have your account banned for not following the terms of service.

Give Shoutouts

When you build a massive list of subscribers, one of the best ways to keep the growth growing is to buddy up with other YouTubers.

The idea is to share your faithful followers with each other. You make a video saying how great this guys channel is and they’ll make a video doing the same for you.

Shoutouts are an excellent way to build a lot of subscribers fast, but no one will want to do this with you unless you have subscribers too!

Create your very own products!

Make your own products, like an ebook, and sell it to your subscribers. The best part is you have complete control over how the product looks, feels, and is priced!

Philip DeFranco started out as a YouTube blogger and managed to start a successful t-shirt company which really helped boost his business success.

By far one of the best strategies for making money on YouTube is to build a large subscriber base, create an original and awesome product, and sell it! With anything business, you make more with the more people you can reach. Focus on growing your subscriber list.
